CDC Fall Family Festival

Monday was the Fall Family Festival for Banks's school! It was a little hot to really feel like a "fall festival" but it was tons of fun!Align Center

They played tons of music and Banks broke it down on the dance floor. This is some kind of song about "swimming" in case you couldn't tell!

"He did it!" Banks with his buddy John Thomas!

Banks loves Nostalia! When I ask him who his friends are at school, he says " 'Stalia and Daddy!" Looks here like Nostalia might be loving Banks too!

Oh no!! Time to go home!

Charleston, I mean.... Jamaica

J and I went to Charleston 2 weeks ago for a little weekend getaway! We wanted to go somewhere exotic, but both realized we didn't want to be that far from Banks. So, we settled on Charleston and we decided we would pretend we were farther away by behaving like tourists! We had a blast! Went to Fort Sumter, which we hadn't done since we were kids. We went to really nice dinners, rooftop bars, walked miles through downtown Charleston, and enjoyed the awesome Lodge Alley Inn.

Thank you, sweet love of my life, for an awesome weekend away!

Safety First

You can never be too safe.

Some kids really underestimate the need for safety. Truth is, you just never know what can happen when you're living on the edge.

I mean, just look here! You could fall on concrete! Good thing I'm wearing a helmet.

You're paying attention, right? Because this is serious stuff.

Cutting the grass is dangerous! I always wear my helmet when I cut the grass. My daddy is real into safety. He says his friend Bill is the safety guy at work, and he wouldn't want Bill to think that safety ended there. We practice safety at home too!

Definitely. You can never be too safe.

Dog

Dogs are faithful and fun. Loyal to the end. Man's best friend they say. Lately, Dog has gone EVERYWHERE with Banks. School. Church. Engagement parties. Everywhere.

Dogs can go anywhere with you. Dog will let you lay on him while you play with your truck. Dog doesn't mind. He's just happy to be with you.

Dog will go in the car with you. He doesn't need much room. Your lap is fine.

Dogs can help cut the grass. They're helpful like that.

And when dog is discarded, that's ok too. He knows you'll come back to him. You always do.

Clemson v. MTSU

I just downloaded this picture, and even though it's from 2 weeks ago - I thought it deserved a post! This is Beth and I at the Clemson - Middle Tennessee St. game! Beth and I go all the way back to Holmes Hall at Clemson as freshmen. Met her my first weekend there! I do love her! Great seeing you, Beth!

Georgia Southern Football

Saturday we made a very impromptu decision to go to the Georgia Southern football game. We happened to stumble across some tailgating friends while waiting on the Olliffs, and wound up sticking with them until gametime. (Thank you for letting us crash your tailgate!!)

Check out all those cuties decked out in their Georgia Southern gear!

What a sweet family!

Hooray! A picture of me and Banks!

Always a cheerleader at heart, Jonathan tried to stunt with all the cute little girl cheerleaders! Kennedy, Peyton, and Lillian all got a turn! They were all super cute!

Banks felt called to dance every time the music played during the game. Enjoy this little video of him rocking out to the marching band! He was too much fun during the game!

20 months old

Dear Banks,

Twenty months old on Friday.... these days are flying by! When I pick you up from your crib in the mornings, your long legs dangling, I'm reminded that every day you are less a baby and more a little boy. But, I'll baby you as long as I can.... I still rock you like a baby every night, as you say "Rock, rock mommy."

What are you doing at 20 months? A LOT!

- You are putting together sentences, 2 and 3 words. I love that I'm starting to hear your thoughts out loud. Yesterday you said "Dog kiss mommy" as you brought your dog to kiss me.

- You really love to dance still, but now you actually dance a little to the rhythm of the music!

- In the car, you want to sing with your duck puppet. You yell "SING! Song."

- You love a "foofball!"

- You still love to tickle daddy.

- You understand possessives. You like to show me "Mommy's eyes. Banks's eyes."

- You love Kindermusik. Especially the "wishy washy wee!" song!

- You ask for your friends by name, and we can talk about them.

- You really remember things that happen, and we talk about them later. Today, we were able to talk about last night's football game and the friends we saw.

- You know and your remember all of your extended family, and it's a lot of fun to flip through pictures with you naming everyone!

- You like to pretend to "pat" our backs to put us to sleep. You "pat" your dog and put him night-night too. It's the first of the "pretend play" we've really seen, and it's so sweet! I love pretending! This week you also pretended to be asleep in your crib when I came to get you. You said "Mommy, asleep!" And he rolled over and closed his eyes, then peeked to make sure I was watching!

- You're really into feeding yourself, and you make a MESS!

We love you sweet, sweet baby! You make us so happy!

Love,
Mommy and Daddy

Happy Birthday Namaw!

Happy Birthday to a very special Namaw!

In Banks's words....

"NAMAW! Happy. Huggie! Happy. MMWWAAAHHH (kiss)! Happy. Miss you! Happy. Bye bye. Night night!"

That was the conversation I overheard tonight as he wished his Namaw a very happy birthday!

We love you so much!

Tough Life

Poor, poor Banks had to spend last weekend with Yaya while J and I went on a much needed weekend away to Charleston, I mean, Jamaica. You see, we only went to Charleston. But we pretended we were in Jamaica. I'm not ready to be that far from Banks - so we decided Charleston was as good as Jamaica, and off we went. To our friends and family in Charleston - we are sorry we didn't call you, but if we were in Jamica, we wouldn't have called you then either. The point was a getaway for the two of us - hope you weren't offended!

Well, poor, poor Banks just had to suffer by playing in a jam up swimming pool (all those toys and he's playing with a plastic bottle?!)....

....coloring with Yaya and Nana...

...running in the bubbles with Bailey the dog...

...helping Yaya pay a few bills at the computer...

... and cheering on the Tigers in "foofball."

Suffer, indeed.

The good ol' days

Sunday we had a chance to watch Chris and Brett play baseball, just like we did when we were kids! They are playing in a men's league in Charleston, and they are really good! Banks enjoyed the game, even if he did keep telling me we were watching "foofball" instead of baseball.

I know - not my best picture, but really... if I don't document myself in his life somehow I will NEVER be documented! Somehow Jonathan refuses to take responsibility for the camera. Ever. (Love you babe!)
Run, Banks, run!! Hurry! Sweet little toddle-run!

'Melon

Remember back in April when I posted these pictures of my fledgling garden?

Behold! My first watermelon! It only took 4 months to grow this tiny melon! Banks and Jonathan cut right into it in the drive way and promptly polished the whole thing off.

Visiting "Mom"

Before leaving the upstate, we made a quick trip to see "Mom," Jonathan's grandmother. There's a story behind her being called "Mom," but I'll not get into that here. And yes, as an outsider to the family it was very strange to get used to calling his grandmother "Mom."

Mom taught Banks to say "precious." Banks told Mom what all the animals said. So, Mom taught Banks that "Mom" says "precious." We'll just add that to the list of sounds things make!

Boys will be Boys

Next to the Smith house, there is some land clearing/dirt moving/some kind of work being done. Banks was dying to see the big trucks. The guy operating the equipment was nice enough to let Banks climb aboard! Banks came back home telling me all about the "loaders" and "trucks." Sweet baby - he's all boy!
