Animal Sounds

Banks is busy learning his animal sounds! For some, you even get hand motions. For example, he's trying to make an elephant nose and waving his arms like a monkey. Hope you enjoy my baby as much as I do!

Swimming Lessons

I've been meaning to post this for weeks! Banks had swimming lessons this summer with his friends Parker and Grace! He loved it, even though we only got to go 4 times. He particularly liked trying to jump off the side and going "unda" the water. He came out with such big smiles! Enjoy some pictures and a short video...

19 months - My little yardboy

Dear sweet Banks,

You turned 19 months old this week. I feel like time is spinning out of control... before I know it you'll be two, then three, then four... I want to bottle you up like this forever!

At 19 months....

You are a sponge! Today I was planting flowers, and the next thing I knew you were holding a shovel and copying everything I was doing. Funny how children become a mirror, and you see how you are behaving in the actions of your child.

You went from wanting to be rocked at night to yelling "BACK!" so that Daddy will rub your back.

You went from calling me Mama, to Mommy, and now to "Mommis."

You're really trying to run! I know I've said before that you were "running" but now you're actually running like a little boy! It's a glimpse into your very active future.

You are so talkative. I can't even keep up with all of your words, and you're finally starting to make some simple sentences. I've waited so long to have conversations with you! Hooray!

You are so precious! We love you more and more every day!

Love,
Mommis and Daddy

Tickling Daddy and Flips

This video was begging (BEGGING I tell you) to jump off my camera and onto the blog. I mean, really... if you had a bad day today, just watch this video and you can't help but laugh along with Banks! He learned to tickle his daddy this week, which cracks him up. Also, you'll notice that he's getting quite good at his flips! Hmmm..... maybe I should have considered tumbling instead of Kindermusik... maybe we'll try tumbling in the spring!

Made Rotten by the Grandparents

Last week Banks was on "summer vacation." We shipped him off to my parents for a few days, and then because we simply canNOT go more than 3 nights without him, the Smiths came here for a few days while J and I worked.

Needless to say, he's been ROTTEN since Monday! He does not understand why he isn't getting our undivided attention. He does not understand why he can't have someone on the the floor playing trains or balls with him 24/7. He does not understand why we can't play outside at his every whim. He cannot comprehend getting dressed before 10 AM. And when the baby does not understand aforementioned things, HE LOSES IT! Laid out on the floor. Legs flailing. Fists pounding. NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!!!

It's been a rough few days, but we are still so very grateful for the time Banks has had to be loved on by all of his grandparents. And I suppose it's their right to make him rotten. I'm going to go ahead and deem that ok in the hopes that when I'm a grandparent, I'll also get a free pass!

Apparently, at Ya ya and Pa pa's house, clothing is optional.

And apparently you can also wear your shoes in the pool...

Hey, shouldn't you be sleeping?

And when Pappy and Grandma (Namaw) come to town, you get more fun pool time! Complete with baby tossing games!

I see a little devil behind that grin.... Pappy probably had you up to something...

Thank you, thank you, thank you to all the grandparents for taking care of Banks (and taking care of us!!!)! He had a blast, and has been calling for Ya ya, Pa pa, Pappy and Namaw for days now!

PS - And thank you for a freezer full of food!!

Happy 6th Anniversary!

Happy Anniversary to the love of my life!

Six years ago today... WOW! So much time has past, and yet I still clearly remember our wedding day. Being so nervous, but so happy! Sweet little ceremony... trolley-bus to the reception... super fun reception... heading off to the honeymoon. Some of my favorite memories would be...

... Standing at the alter with you, realizing you were wearing a mic on your lapel, and being afraid to whisper anything for fear the entire congregation would hear me! And you worrying that I was not happy because I wouldn't talk to you!

... Papa in the conga line dancing to Hot, Hot, Hot!

... The groomsmen, primarily Tim, dancing with mom (and my brothers NOT being fans of that!)

... The dog pile on Kent (It was Kent, right?) when he caught the garter!

... Julie being real serious about catching the bouquet!

... Dancing and dancing and dancing away at the reception!

... Checking in to our hotel in Columbia and realizing that there was an AME church convention going on occupying the whole hotel. I can hear those sweet ladies with their giant hats now... "Aw Honey! Let those babies through! They just got Married! Congratulations, sweeties..."

... Being surrounded by family and our best friends in life as we made a commitment, til death do us part, to love and to cherish, as long as both shall live.

And I mean it more today than I did back then.

Vacation: Hilton Head 2009

Finally, after many years of saying we would take a family vacation like the good ol' days, we finally took a vacation! Here's a top 10 list of experiences during Vaca 2K9.

10. If you want to claim you caught a 6-foot black tip shark, you better have pictures to prove it.

9. If you don't want to get spanked in golf, you better get a good night's sleep (and behave yourself the night before!).

8. Spa days are really, really worth it. Really.

7. Don't bother with the trolley at Sea Pines. The drivers are really mean, and they hate you for wanting to ride their trolley. The will proceed to punish you by ensuring you miss your connecting trolley by mere seconds.

6. Bikes are meant to be ridden on the bike paths. The policeman does not take kindly to idiots who ride their bikes on the road.

5. Banks loves to shop at the Nike outlet. At the top of his lungs, he ran (RAN, I tell you) around screaming (very, very loudly) BALL! SHOES! HAT! BANKSY! (As he saw his reflection in the mirror). Repeat ad nauseam.

4. During wine tastings, proper protocol is to discreetly dispose of wine you do not like (by dumping it in the bushes next to the porch). Downing your wine like a shot is frowned upon.

3. Sunsets on the island are breathtaking, particularly when dolphins leap out of the water in front of the setting sun.

2. Harbour Town is awfully nostalgic. As Greg Russell plays his 33rd year singing to the kids under the big oak tree, he says "How many of you came here as kids, and now you are here with your kids?" I proudly raised my hand high.

1. Ice cream makes everything better.

As travel and event coordinator for Vaca 2K9, I'm happy to say we had a super fun (although not necessarily restful) vacation. Perhaps next year, we'll need to stay a full week!
