Me: How was your day, Banks?
Banks: Ummm.... Mrs. Lynn was there but Mrs. Hayley was late. She came in after the pledge. Did you know we say a pledge of allegiance? To a FLAG?!
Me (laughing): Well, yes I'm sure you do! We did too when I was in school.
Banks: But it's just a flag! Just a plain flag! Why do we do that?!
Me: Because we honor our country that way, Banks.
Banks: But we should say our pledge to GOD! Not our country. We should pledge to God, right?
I was not prepared for this conversation.
